Release notes
Cleer 2.1.0
Released October 8, 2026. Cleer 2.1.0 adds Coding Agents, which cleans what coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex and Cursor leave on your Mac, including Cursor's chat history. The download is about a quarter smaller.
What's new in 2.1.0
- Coding Agents knows 25 coding agents and editors, including Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf and Factory, and shows how much each one keeps and how much of it can go. Install it from the Feature Market.
- Caches, logs and old versions follow your cleanup method. Conversations older than 7, 30 or 90 days, what uninstalled agents left behind and git worktrees without changes go to the Trash. Settings, sign-ins, memory files and skills are never touched.
- Look into any agent's sessions to see what each was about and what was said, and move the ones you choose to the Trash.
- Look into Cursor's chat database to see which conversations take the space, then delete the ones you choose. It needs about 1 GB of free space, gives the room back right away and can't be undone; quit Cursor first.
- Checkboxes are square wherever you can choose several items, and Cleer takes about 20 MB once installed, less than half of what it took before. Agent Tools 2.1.0 can scan coding agents with cleer scan agents.
Cleer 2.0.2
Released October 4, 2026. Cleer 2.0.2 says why a scan didn't run, keeps what a cancelled scan found, and stops cleaning when your protection list can't be read.
- If your protection list can't be read, for example after it was saved in another text encoding, cleanups now remove nothing and say why, instead of quietly using the default rules. Agent Tools 2.0.2 refuses to prepare cleanup plans until the list is fixed.
- When a scan can't run or fails, the page now says why in your language, for example when another scan is still running. Duplicates and Category Cleanup keep their last results instead of clearing them.
- Cancelling Duplicates keeps the duplicate groups it had already confirmed, and cancelling Category Cleanup keeps the categories that finished. Cancelling a Smart Clean preview keeps the previous preview.
- Removing a plugin with its data now deletes what its card lists: Storage Analysis's index, Space History's snapshots, iCloud Cleanup's folder access and Optimize's safeguard list. Deleted settings no longer come back from 1.x at the next launch.
- With limited Photos access, Photo Cleanup can now remove the photos you shared with Cleer, and access you change in System Settings applies without relaunching Cleer.
- Overview's power card shows the battery state in your language and no longer shows 0:00 once the battery is charged.
Cleer 2.0.1
Released October 3, 2026. Cleer 2.0.1 makes protection rules cover a folder's contents however they're written, lets scans start right after launch, and stops selecting Xcode Archives for you.
- A protection rule now covers everything inside its folder when it ends with a slash, such as ~/Library/Caches/com.example.app/, or when its letter case differs from the folder's. Before, such a rule protected only the folder itself, so a cleanup could still remove the files inside it.
- Smart Clean lists Xcode Archives under Needs Review instead of selecting them. Archives hold the builds you shipped and their debug symbols, which can't be rebuilt.
- iCloud Cleanup keeps a protection rule that names the folder you authorized, and stops using that folder if it's moved out of iCloud Drive.
- Scans you start in the first seconds after opening Cleer no longer fail with “The maximum number of concurrent jobs is already running.”
- During a scan, checking for updates, reopening the window or a low-space alert no longer replaces the scan's progress or removes its Cancel button.
- Agent Tools 2.0.1 matches protection rules the same way, so cleanup plans refuse paths under a rule written with a trailing slash or a different letter case.
Cleer 2.0.0
Released October 3, 2026. Cleer 2.0 turns each feature into a plugin you choose in the new Feature Market, and adds Photo Cleanup.
- Feature Market: every feature is now a plugin you install or remove, and the sidebar shows only the ones you use. Plugins are built into Cleer, so installing one downloads nothing, and each one says what it reads, changes and stores, and whether it uses the network.
- New users choose plugins on first launch, starting from Smart Clean, Storage Analysis and Uninstall Apps. Coming from 1.x, every feature you used stays installed and your settings carry over.
- Photo Cleanup, the first new plugin, finds similar shots, screenshots and possibly blurry photos in your Photos library or in folders you choose. The sharpest shot of each group stays, screenshots older than 30 days are selected, and blurry photos are only listed.
- Photo Cleanup also lists all your photos by month to pick from by hand, and Review One by One goes through them with ← and →. Library photos go to Recently Deleted in Photos. Analysis stays on your Mac, and nothing is downloaded from iCloud.
- The 1.x Overview Accessory is now the Notch Overview plugin. If you had it on, it stays on.
- Your cleanup protection list now applies to every cleanup, not just Smart Clean, and to Agent Tools cleanup plans.
- Cleer uses much less CPU: about a quarter as much with the Overview open, and the app itself about a third as much during a scan.
- The sidebar lists plugins in the order you installed them, and you can drag rows to reorder. Keyboard shortcuts are unchanged.
- Agent Tools 2.0.0: cleer cleanup prepare and the MCP prepare tool refuse paths on your protection list, and applying a plan checks the list again before anything moves to the Trash.
Cleer 1.4.0
Released September 29, 2026. Cleer 1.4.0 turns Storage Analysis into a folder browser with faster scans that use far less memory, and adds low-space alerts.
- Storage Analysis is now a folder browser: click a folder to open it, jump to any parent from the path bar, and see how much of the folder each item takes. Contents and Large Files share one list, and the keyboard works too (arrow keys, Return, ⌘↑).
- Storage Analysis scans are faster and use far less memory. On large folders they finish about 10–25% sooner with about a third less CPU time, and on a folder with 4.3 million files peak memory fell from about 500 MB to about 66 MB. Coming back within 10 minutes shows the last complete scan instead of scanning again.
- Low-space alerts: get a system notification when free space drops below a threshold you choose. Cleer checks every 15 minutes, only points you to a scan or preview, and never cleans on its own.
- Space History can record one snapshot a day in the background while Cleer is open.
- Review lists work from the keyboard: arrow keys move, Space selects, ⌘Y opens Quick Look.
- Duplicates explains which copy is kept and lets you change it, and counts APFS clones as shared space. Project Cleanup groups results by project and cleans several at once.
- Uninstall, iCloud, project and installer scans show progress and can be cancelled, and scans never download iCloud-only files.
- When a button is disabled because another task is running, the page says which one. Switches, buttons and choices in Settings follow Cleer's theme.
- Agent Tools 1.4.0: cleer cleanup apply moves a prepared plan to the Trash after you confirm in the terminal. The MCP cleanup tool only appears with --allow-cleanup, and your agent app asks before each call. Items only go to the Trash, never deleted permanently.
Cleer 1.3.0
Released September 25, 2026. Cleer 1.3.0 makes cleanup safer and scans much faster, and verifies updates before installing them.
- Personal data is off-limits in every cleanup: your home folder and its top-level folders, Keychains, Mail, Messages, Safari, Calendars, Contacts, and Photos and Music libraries.
- Documents, Photos, Videos, Music, Mail, creator caches, and Other always go to the Trash, even when Cleer is set to delete permanently. Only developer caches follow that setting.
- Folders on your cleanup protection list are kept even inside a cache folder that is being cleaned.
- Duplicate cleanup checks each copy again before removing it, skips files that changed after the scan, and always keeps one unchanged copy.
- Uninstalling an open app asks it to quit so you can save your work, instead of force-quitting it. Leftover matching no longer claims unrelated files or apps installed in subfolders.
- Storage Analysis scans large folders up to about 5 times faster with far less memory. It includes hidden folders such as .docker and .git, measures real disk usage, and stays on the disk you chose.
- Category Cleanup scans about twice as fast, and switching pages after a scan no longer stalls. Uninstall sizes large apps such as Xcode much faster.
- Updates are installed only when signed by Cleer's developer and approved by macOS. A failed update leaves the current version in place.
- Agent Tools 1.3.0 can still scan and prepare cleanup plans, but only Cleer itself deletes files.
- Fixes: a large or maximized window no longer snaps back, a crash when cancelling a scan is fixed, and a scan that just finished shows “just now”.
Cleer 1.2.6
Released September 16, 2026. Cleer 1.2.6 is a performance update.
- Performance improvements.
Cleer 1.2.5
Released September 16, 2026. Cleer 1.2.5 adds a compact overview accessory on the MacBook notch. It stays off until you turn it on and never deletes files from there.
- On a built-in notched display, a strip beside the camera shows two overview numbers. Click to expand health, disk, memory, CPU, and network.
- Macs without a notch use the same two numbers in the menu bar.
- Settings can choose what appears on the left and right: health, free space, memory, CPU, or network. The accessory is off by default and never deletes files from there.
- The accessory follows the language set in Cleer, and shows a loading state instead of “Unknown” before the first status read.
Cleer 1.2.4
Released September 9, 2026. Cleer 1.2.4 points license, updates, and docs at cleermac.com, and finds more leftover space from editors, uninstalled apps, and hidden backups.
- License activation, in-app updates, the Agent Tools feed, and the docs link now use cleermac.com.
- Settings can unbind a license so you can activate it on another Mac.
- Uninstall can trash leftover app-container contents without asking Finder, and never follows Desktop or Downloads symlinks inside that container.
- Smart Clean includes AI and editor caches such as Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, Zed, Warp, Ghostty, Claude, Codex, and Playwright. Caches for apps that are still running are skipped.
- Storage Analysis lists hidden space: iPhone backups, old Downloads, Time Machine snapshots, purgeable space, and large developer caches.
- The uninstall list groups leftover data from apps that are already gone, and hides background-only helpers.
- The menu bar includes Check for Updates, View, and Actions. Body and sidebar text follow accessibility text size.
Cleer 1.2.3
Released August 24, 2026. Cleer 1.2.3 uninstalls iPhone and iPad apps that could not be moved to Trash, and makes Storage Analysis folder navigation show the folder you clicked.
- Uninstall can move iPhone and iPad apps, and other apps the file API cannot trash, through Finder.
- Cleanup receipts keep the real failure reason instead of a generic English fallback.
- The uninstall list marks iPhone and iPad apps.
- Clicking a folder in Storage Analysis updates the list to that folder. The last scan keeps a navigation index in memory when the on-disk index cannot be written.
- The unused lifecycle-chevron tooltip is gone.
Cleer 1.2.2
Released August 20, 2026. Cleer 1.2.2 makes cleanup results easier to trust and the Mac app easier to update.
- Cleanup receipts explain skipped items. Hover the skipped-count info icon to see why Cleer left a path alone, including macOS Software Update caches.
- Dates and relative times follow the language you chose in Cleer, not the system locale.
- When an update is available, an install button appears next to Settings. The download sheet works from any page.
- Hint icons use Cleer's own tooltip, so skip reasons stay readable and match the app theme.
- In installer and uninstall selection mode, clicking anywhere on a row selects that item.
Cleer 1.2.1
Released August 13, 2026. Cleer 1.2.1 tightens scan accuracy, disk reporting, and the review UI.
- Uninstall leftover scans skip symlink leftovers, so aliases and links do not inflate leftover lists.
- Open Trash opens the system Trash window instead of selecting ~/.Trash inside Home.
- Overview, Space History, and cleanup results use the same disk-capacity numbers, including external and exFAT volumes.
- You can cancel Storage Analysis from the header. Refreshing status no longer takes over that cancel control.
- TypeScript .ts files and lyrics files such as .lrcx are no longer listed as videos.
- Category cleanup rows show disk usage without selecting a file.
- Space History charts available space, growth, and space freed by cleanup.
- Agent Tools CLI and MCP scan results include per-category sizes and available disk space. The MCP tool list is unchanged.
Cleer 1.2.0
Released August 12, 2026. Cleer 1.2.0 makes scans faster, cleanup results easier to review, and the Mac app more compact.
- A redesigned warm, minimal interface with clearer navigation and tighter layouts.
- Faster category, storage, and uninstall scans with less repeated filesystem work.
- A searchable app-uninstall list with app files, caches, containers, and login items grouped together.
- Storage Analysis now keeps a local index for the current scan, so opening subfolders does not start the same scan again.
- Better file previews for documents, photos, and videos. Videos no longer appear in the Documents category.
- Clearer reporting for file size, disk usage, estimated reclaimable space, and the observed disk-space change after cleanup.
- Safer review and cleanup flows with file-identity checks, protected paths, Trash support, and per-item results.
- iCloud cleanup for files inside a folder that you explicitly authorize.
- Optional Agent Tools beta with the cleer CLI and a local stdio MCP server for Codex, Cursor, Claude Code, and other compatible tools.
Agent Tools beta
Agent Tools is a separate, optional download. The standard Cleer app does not include the CLI or MCP binaries.
- Install it from Cleer > Settings > Command Line & Agent Tools (Beta).
- Scans use your existing Cleer license and the same safety rules as the Mac app.
